A well-deserved nap

Further adventures in gleaning, or fun with Todd and David. (1) Pictured with Todd is Eugene of Whole Foods Briarcliff, another one of Whole Foods Market’s warmhearted employees. If I had a service business, I’d hire any of their workers. Eugene is a good guy who’s always looking out for Helping Feed Atlanta. (2) Todd…

Today’s workout

I picked up 28 cases of 2% qts of milk from a dairy wholesaler who is a some-time partner of Helping Feed Atlanta. 28 cases x 28lbs a case= 784 lbs. Lifted twice, loading and unloading. Workout done for today!

You get what you need

Every day can’t be a feast of lanterns. (Confusius, I think) That’s something I read from one of those 365 quotes and inspirational daily calendars back in 1982. It seems that I can’t forget it because I’ve used that quote a few times in my posts, right here. Occasionally, Helping Feed Atlanta’s volunteers contact me,…

Always brings a smile

You wouldn’t know this unless you knew Todd Besmertnik, but any day you’re hanging with him is a good day. Today was Todd’s 2nd day as Helping Feed Atlanta’s first employee. We gleaned from three Whole Foods Market’s and collected 550 lbs, and that’s saying something. Although the employees of Whole Foods had only met…

Who knows what’s next?

It was four years ago today that I picked up 40 lbs of donated slightly sprouted potatoes from Whole Foods Market Ponce de Leon to plant in a community garden. Little did I know those potatoes would change my life. It was not my plan to expand from one Whole Foods Market Atlanta to six. It…

Brrr . . . It’s cold here in Hotlanta today but it was a memorable day that I won’t soon forget because today was Helping Feed Atlanta’s first employee’s first day on the job. I’ve already introduced you to Todd but I wanted to give you a glimpse from the inside (photo from Whole Foods Market Briarcliff)….

Those that are able, do

“You’re enabling lazy people to live off your food and government hand outs while they buy lobster and liquor with food stamps while watching a tv on a 50″ flat screen.” This, or a variation of the above is something I hear on an ongoing basis since I started Helping Feed Atlanta. The first time…

Noticed me struggling

This was posted by Bruce Nelson, “Our Man of the Northern Arc,” who was in big time pain today: So today as I was in a state of pain. I went about my normal routine for Helping Feed Atlanta. Neither rain, sleet or snow will deter me. At Whole Foods Market – Merchant Walk, a…

Tools for independence

Months ago, in a roundabout way, I was put in contact with Anna Maki with Tools for Independence. She offered to paint Helping Feed Atlanta’s second, really big, van with the help of her clients. It’s now almost complete. Tools for Independence is an organization that promotes skill development for individuals with developmental disabilities, including…

I got some ‘splainin to do

What??? If you haven’t been paying attention, Helping Feed Atlanta has been picking up massive loads of donated produce this week. all from Whole Foods Market’s and Costco. Lemme ‘splain . . . Did a ton today

Between Bruce and me, we had a great day of gleaning donated produce from Whole Foods Market’s and Costco. Well over 2,000 lbs (a ton) of produce, spread around all over town to those of us in need. Pictured is Dan from Whole Foods Market – Merchant’s Walk
